Course Description: English 090 is a Unified Remedial English non-credit course, required for all students who couldn't pass or take the placement test. The main objective of this course is to enforce students reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. It emphasizes the learning of vocabulary and grammar in context. Students will be introduced to writing techniques; such as, brainstorming and outlining, to improve their academic writing skill. It is a CALL course that requires computer-lab work once a week. This course encourages critical thinking and allows for a student-centered classroom environment.
Grade Computation:
- Homework - 5%
- Kuwait University CALL Project - 5%
- Quizzes 1,2,3,4, & 5 - 5%
- Midterm Exam: Units 1, 2, & 3 - 40%
- Final Exam: Units 5 & 6 - 45%
Absence:
- Role is taken everyday.
- Being late 3 times is considered as one absence.
- 3 absences = 6 hours, First warning.
- 6 absences = 12 hours, Second warning.
- 10 absences = 20 hours, Administrative Failure, (FA).
